In Animal Grid, Stacey Lee Webber intricately hand-saws nine animal portraits from foreign and American coins, bringing to life a diverse collection of creatures, including a bird, deer, beaver, dolphin, and bear. Each animal, meticulously cut with a traditional jeweler’s saw, is mounted on soldered brass posts and set against a painted wood backing. Encased in a 6.5-inch handmade steel frame with an acrylic face, this piece transforms currency into a tribute to the natural world. By extracting and reassembling these symbols of wildlife from global coinage, Animal Grid highlights the enduring connection between animals, culture, and the value we assign to them.
